Thanks a Heap!

(photo borrowed from StarCat's Flickr page)

Thanks to everyone who came out to yesterday's Holiday Heap! I was gifted with rasinbread, tea, a cupcake, a wonderful lunch provided by Clementine & Atwaters, visits from old friends and family, and so many kind words from new-to-me shining faces (w/ wet heads from the clumps of snow that fell all day long!). So nice to see all of you!
Thank you so much for stopping by the show (and for adopting so many monsters)!

Now its time to reboot and restock, getting ready for an Etsy update and another craft show on Saturday!

More monster photos on Flickr (and a few of Thanksgiving too)! Enjoy.

Off to pack and ship and make more stock for these upcoming craft shows (i need another day in the week!!)

Feeling a little crazy gearing up for the holidays....I'm aiming to get new beasties up in the etsy shop ASAP!!! Friday, Saturday or Sunday...all depends on how long it takes me to get pictures taken/edited/uploaded (while forcing myself to take off for Thanksgiving...atleast half the day)!

The image above is of a giant space bug that got sent off to Ohio for "Stuff This," a show opening Dec 5th at a gallery/shop called Rivet. Click here to see a list of all the awesome artists from around the world participating. More on this later!

In addition to updating the online shop, I'm also gearing up for this year's Holiday Heap which is only (gasp) ONE WEEK away!! Then the following week I'll be at another Baltimore show, Squidfire's Holiday Art Mart sharing a booth with the AMAZING Shawna Pincus, creator of Pinkkiss Pottery. Its rare that I leave a craft show without one of her beautiful pieces (seriously), so I'm siked to have this chance to be table buddies!

Crafty Bastards, oh so soon!

I can't believe Crafty Bastards is next weekend (not this coming weekend, but the one after that!) October 3rd, 2009. I feel like I've been preparing for some time now, but still feel like I could do a million hours more work!
If you are thinking about coming to the show in Adams Morgan, DC you can check out the vendor list before hand, so as to be sure not to miss any of your favorites.

Also new on the horizon is Squidfire's first Art Mart in Philadelphia Saturday October 17th! I'm really excited for this! I haven't been to Philly to sell Cotton Monsters since the first craft show I participated in, Art Star, many moons ago! Philly people, and those nearby, spread the word! Come on out! I'll put up a reminder when it gets a bit closer.

New Cotton Monster press in the UK!

Just received a copy of "Sew" magazine's September issue all the way from the United Kingdom! (Thanks Emily!) They did a little featurette on the Cotton Monsters for their "Stitched Connection: our pick of places to go on the web" section! How exciting! Welcome to any new readers that may have stumbled on this blog after seeing the blurb in Sew! The mag is full of fun little sewing/dressmaking projects. Its been literally years since I've worked from a pattern, but there is a super cute vintage looking polka-dotted dress in there that I might have to have a try at making!

Spending today getting things uploaded in the shop...Big summer update hopefully wednesday or thursday! More later!

long delay!

Ah, long delay indeed. Summer Camp has left me needing a nap most days before getting in a couple hours sewing, then gyming it, dinner and collapsing. Not much time for posting or accomplishing much of anything! But today was the last day of camp! Just one more day of work on some big monsters and a lot of photo editing and I'll be ready to fill the Etsy Shop w/ a whole new batch of beasties (and maybe a few older ones will go on sale!)

The shop is emptied right now, aside from a watchful eye or two, but soon there will be more watchful eyes, jellies, little guys, a few pents, bottomfeeders and big monsters too!

Aiming for getting the update done early next week! More info soon. Here are few sneak peaks of what's coming!

Artscape weekend..and back to work!

I took a few shots of work happening in my studio early this week for the sole purpose of proving to YOU that although there hasn't been an update in a while and I've been a bit silent on the blog as of late, I am in fact making some monster/eyeball progress!! Coming back from San Fran and diving right into teaching summer camp (mixed with mini-vacations to the farm and beach, an adorable nephew, a few other projects and my general summer "i want to be a kid" lament) has left me without many good solid sewing hours. But I've been buckling down!!

NEWS TO NOTE: I'll be sharing some space vending with the Charm City Craft Mafia at next Saturday's Hamilton Festival (July 25th) for the locals, and after that will be doing a big ol' online monster update, either late July or early August! Promise! More deets to come!

ALSO, if you are in Baltimore for this weekend's Artscape, keep your eye out for a GINORMOUS green sea monster atop of the information booth (at the top of the hill above the main stage). This inflatable monster was made for Artscape two years ago, but i was asked to reinstall it again! Pictures to come...

Thanks for not giving up on me, even though I'm a slow-poke!!

Miss Carly

If you don't know her already, meet Miss Carly Goss, weaver of fine cloths, singer of ancient tunes, hoola-hoop maiden, and now teacher of the next generation...Carly of "Carlybird Weaves" started assisting summer camp classes with me this week at the Rec. Center (pictured here in the apron I forced her to wear to protect her pretty clothes...painting an oh so patriotic masterpiece) and I couldn't be happier!

Just last week Carly was a featured artisan on a great website HANDMADENEWS.ORG click here to read the article and check out the site! We've know each other since college days and are now fellow craft mafiosos and co-workers, and can't help but tooting each other's horns every once in a while! If you are not familiar with Carly's work, you should also check out her website and shop! She weaves the most beautiful fabrics from string and looms-the old fashion way-and makes many into contemporary pieces of what I call fiber jewerly; cuffs and scarfs/scarfletts. They are just lovely, and I happen to be the proud owner of one!

If I ever open up a Cotton Monster studio/sweatshop, I would want to have Carly there with a giant 16 shaft loom, shuttling back and forth right along side my sewing machine! Workhorses unite!

Home again...

Just made it home from my 10 days in San Francisco, and aside from a wicked sunburn (overcast skies, who knew) my trip was amazing. My gal Gertie and I spent much of our time this way (lounging in grassy parks), wandering through the city, thrift shopping, eating burritos and generally relaxing. We spent the weekend in the redwoods, canoed, barbecued, got more sunburnt, and wine tasted. I love this lady and her whole town with a passion. I'm sure by day 10 she was tired of me pointing at giant succulents in peoples yards and saying "Can you believe how AMAZING that is?" Yes, she knows.  She gets to see it everyday! I just couldn't keep it in. I'll be posting more pics on flickr after some much needed studio clean up time!

Cotton Monsters ordered while I was away will ship out today!

A few things to note!

*Today on "The Signal" a fantastic radio program on Balitmore's own WYPR radio station 88.1 fm myself and members of the Charm City Craft Mafia were interviewed for a interview/sound collage of sorts! It airs at noon and 7pm today here in Baltimore, or listen to it HERE anytime!

*Also, to note, The Charm City Craft Mafia will be hosting Pile of Craft art/craft fair once again next Saturday June 20th from 10am-5pm at 2640 St. Paul street in Baltimore...unfortunatley it falls right in the middle of my monster vacation, so though Cotton Monster won't be there...everyone else will! Go, shop, support the local!

*AND, at 8pm tonight our free shipping offer (within the US) on little monsters, pentapods, jellies and watchful eyes expires! So act now!
