Happy Holidays from Cotton Monster!

To all my Cotton Monster fans, friends and family....wishing you a very happy and healthy holiday season! I owe you all tons and tons of hugs and cookies and eyeballs! I feel so lucky to have amassed such a great following and gotten such good press these past few years. I am so happy and honored to be making art that lives in people's homes from Bulgaria to California to Texas and my favorite place of all Baltimore.

I know this has been a crazy year for everyone...I can't help but stare into the lights of my very first christmas tree...take a deep breath and think of all the things in my life that I am thankful for (this bearded fella is on the top of the list). I am eagerly awaiting 2009, remaining hopeful that its not to late for things to change.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, good vibes and monster lovin'!

Opening week....

So there are two upcoming shows this week I'm involved in....

One in good ol' hometown Baltimore Maryland: Thursday November 6th from 6-8pm, there will be an opening reception for my Eyepiece project which is installed in the Minstallation Gallery at the Creative Alliance. The Minstallation Gallery is literally mini, measuring 16" deep with 14" tall ceiling. Below is a sneak peak! And here's a little write up!! The opening is also for the new main gallery show Magnolia Laurie & René Treviño: Destructive Behavior, which should be fantastic! Both shows will be up through Dec. 20th, so if you miss the opening, you'll have plenty of time to stop in and see the work over the next two months!
The other in San Francisco: Plush You Two is another shop show, this time at Double Punch (1821 Powell StreetSan Francisco CA) Opening on Friday November 7th, and will be up through Nov. 30th. I sent off two little Cotton Monsters to this show where they will be in good company amongst tons of other soft handmade creatures!

Flower Power

Jay and I got to be talking flowers in last night's "Through the looking Glass" themed Great Halloween Lantern Parade...the middle of the flowers were megaphones that played music. Amazing! Everyone looked fantastic (though of course all my pictures are blurry!)

Halloween Art Show!

Tomorrow night, Tuesday October 6th from 7-9pm, will be the opening of a Halloween art show at a little bar called Roman's near Patterson Park (2 south decker st.) The show was set up by my pal and awsome artist, Bovie and will include halloweenesque work by eleven local artists, including myself (pictured) and fellow mafioso Michael Bracco. The work will be up for the month, so if you're in the area, stop in, have a drink, and look at some art!

Farm trip

Just got back from a two and a half day vacation...visiting my old pal on a beautiful organic farm in VA. I ate wondeful food, hiked a steep rocky trail, befriended the sweetest dog ever, and sewed some eyeballs of course!

Scarf Drawing....

My dear red-headed friend Rachel of RED PRAIRIE PRESS is doing a Blog give away. Simply respond to her question "what is your favorite cartoon" (my answer pictured above), and your name will go into a drawing for the chance to win a screen-printed scarf of your choosing!

Its that easy! Make a comment on her post by wednesday and ONE lucky winner will be picked at random to have their neck wrapped in style this fall!!

p.s. Even if you aren't the winner, you can always buy one from her online shop! Ha!

Monster Love

Just a picture of the TWO beasts I made yesterday. Thats right, I worked non stop all day to make these buggers. Using recycled materials means no assembly line work...Its a slow process...hence, the sad news: the Etsy shop update will not happen before August's end, but I'm going to aim for the first week of September! More info later on...

In other not so exciting news...I made a Cotton Monster myspace page, cause....why not?

Oh, and my most recent addiction, Pandora Radio. Type in a band or song and it magically plays music with similar qualities non-stop....i was skeptical at first, but must say I've been pretty amazed so far...its made me realize how much is missing from my music collection!

Back to sewing!!

Big Game Opening

Well, the art show in my friend's basement bedroom "opened" last night to the public (mostly friends and a few passerbys that were pulled in from off the street) Liz pulled it off beautifully, transforming the room into a hunting lodge of sorts! The photos were fantastic, animal hats were worn by all and no one got injured! Horray!

Family Week

My big sis visited this past week with her growing family, and my mom and I threw her a baby shower! Its nice every once in a while to stray from monster making, just to be sure I haven't lost the gift of making other things...so I made a whale family for her, a big one with a pocket mouth and removable water spray, and two littler ones that will be more the size of the wee one.
I think the baby got enough onsies to wear a different one every day for the first 3 months! Everything is so adorable in size tiny!

(For the record, I am still feverishly making monsters...)

I took some time out last night to work on this white elephant head for a friend's upcoming 'hunting'-themed installation. There's much more too it, but it shall be best left a surprise!

And here are a few photos of us preparing for the photo shoot...Lions and zebras and hunters! Oh My!!

Liz....you are AMAZING!!
