Holiday sell out!

Its true...all the cotton monsters have been adopted. Don't fret, there'll be plenty more available come early January!! So, if you are without a monster to give, give a monster IOU !! I made as many as my little hands could handle, and now I've got a few days to fulfill some long over due orders that came in long ago...And after a brief monster vacation, it'll be back to stuffing eye balls and stitching teeth.
Appologies to all who tried and failed to get a monster this holiday...I did my darndest to fulfil as many wishes as I could, but being a one woman show I could only do so much. Next year I'll start hoarding monster stock for the holidays in July!

It's the most monsterous time of the year!

Thanks to everyone that came out to support the Charm City Craft Mafia's Holiday Heap this past Saturday. I was amazed at the turn out, and thrilled to meet all the cotton monster lovers that stopped by my table. And, I admit it, well before the shopping day was through, ALL the cotton monsters had been adopted! Good for monsters, not so good for my fingers...which are now faced with the task of trying to create enough stock to fill my table at THIS SUNDAY's Holiday Art Mart, brought to you by the fine folks of Squidfire.

There will be monsters, there will be newly printed Cotton Monster totebags, and there will be fun fun FUN. I know for sure my buddy Michelle will be twirling her hula-hoop and there is bound to be plenty more to entertain you while you shop (including Sofie's Crepes)! If you NEED a monster, please come early!! See you there!

Tagged

Though I like to keep this "blog" more about the Cotton Monsters than about little old me....My friend Rachel from the ever popular Red Prairie Press has "tagged" me, which in turn means I must share with you five random things about myself (that you may not already know). Here it goes:
1. I used to have dreadlocks...its true..they may still be in a bag around here somewhere
2. I can eat my weight in pasta (this may have something to do with being half italian)
3. I have two cats that I love like babies, dinah and fleur, (hence they are on the chub-chub side)
4. If an entire day of listening to NPR is getting me down, I flip on the boob tube to watch the best soap ever, General Hospital. Poor beautiful Emily Quarterman just died at the hands of a psycho, and so what if I stopped stuffing eyeballs for a moment to weep (just a little.) She'll probably be back as a ghost or a twin eventually.
5. I have a serious problem putting clothes inside of drawers...sorry jay

there you go, now you know....thanks to rachel.

Sold out...wahoo.

Yes, the new monsters were posted yesterday...and yes, they sold out.

As I wrote in the newsletter, I can't take any more pre-holiday orders right now, but get back to me in January if you'd like to commission something. Or check back for more updates.

And, as I said, I will put up whatever stock is left after my Dec. 9th Craft show...if there is any....so check again later.

thanks to all...sorry to some.

Update Tomorrow

Here we go again,

The monster shop will be stocked with 40 brand new monsters *(biggest update yet!!) tomorrow afternoon, Saturday November 17. So, get them while you can.

Keep in mind, I will be participating in two upcoming craft shows in Baltimore, MD: Charm City Craft Mafia’s Holiday Heap Saturday Dec. 1st (just two weeks away) and Squidfire’s Holiday Art Mart Sunday Dec. 9th. Please visit their websites for more info. Both events are sure to be a good time!

I’m sorry I cannot take any more custom requests/orders until January…so please hold off on emailing till then! If I have any stock left after the Squidfire Show, they will go up in the store asap!
Also to note, postal shipping costs continue to rise due to fuel prices etc. so from now on, all BIG monsters, Bottomfeeders, and Sea Monsters will ship first class mail (their boxes are so big, the cost was becoming outrageous)…for now, little monsters, jellies, and pentapods will go Priority Mail. Thanks for understanding!

PLUSH YOU!

If you ever wanted to know even more about me...the weirdo behind the cotton monsters, you should click on over to the plush you blog where there's a pretty long interview with your's truly! It was posted Wednesday, October 31.

If you haven't checked it out already, you can spend HOURS browsing a world of all things "stuffed"...Even I had no idea there was so much out there. I highly recommend it, and I hope to be a part of the Plush You shows next year!

Tactile

This weekend I received a copy of the german published book, Tactile, which happens to include a couple photos of my giant inflatable monsters!! The book is beautiful and features amazing art and design work from all over the world...including the amazing paper cutouts of my old fiber buddy Jen Stark. I was completely honored to be included in the printing, and highly recommend picking up a copy (at least to browse through at a book shop!) It is inspiring...

"Tactile shows how graphic design is moving into three-dimensional objects and products. The innovative examples documented in the book demonstrate how designers are developing and implementing their ideas spatially from the very outset of a project."

Oh the holidays....

So, I've decided to take NO MORE custom requests/orders between now and the holiday season....SO that I can better prepare for even MORE online shop updates and december craft shows. That means, hopefully, more folks will have a chance to get Cotton Monsters in the next few months. My little fingers are working away trying to make this happen. I'll resume taking orders/custom requests in January, so please hold off till then.

THANKS for understanding.

p.s.Mud and Metal just got a new stock of Cotton Monsters (if you're in Balto.)

Current TV: Video from Crafty Bastards

While I don't really consider myself a maker of "plush," it seems if you are making stuffed things you get lumped in that category. This time, it got me a little spot on a video made by a cool guy named Alex who's behind Damaged Films.

To view the video with some words from me and the creators of My Papercrane as well as Spooky Daddy and more, click HERE...and if you're so inclined vote for it to run on the air!

Crafty Show

Thanks to everyone who came out to the 2007 Craft Bastard Festival yesterday in DC. It was awsome. At one point there were so many people it was hard to move at all...which maybe is not so good for the crowd, but great for vendors!

So many monsters found homes, and as always the cotton monsters made lots of new friends!
Here are a few photos of my Cotton Monster booth, and my trusty side kick wearing his new t-shirt from our next door neighbors Red Prairie Press.

The online update of the shop is my next top priority, so look for a new stock of monsters online, probably next week. I'll send out a newsletter update a day or so in advance!

A couple custom papa monsters...

Here are two recently commissioned monsters...one (w/airplanes & stripes) made special for a friend from his son's out grown baby clothes...and the other, custom made as a gift for a daddy-to-be.

Where's she gone?

Don't fear friends of Cotton Monsters! I have not stopped making monsters or fallen into a coma....I've been working as fast as my wee hands can to keep up with the new demand for my little dears. I also have been taking a bit of a well deserved vacation, visiting some old friends and hiking some hills in West Virginia. So appologies again for slowness in email responding. Im trying!
Im still trying to get enough stock to keep D.C. happy at the upcoming Crafty Bastards show, and will update the site as soon as monsterly possible. (don't worry, the newsletter will be sent out a few days in advance of the shop update this time...we'll see how it goes.)

I also have been working on a new monster breed...and oh my, the are oh so sweet! Pictures to come soon!

Here's a picture of two new big guys that just got shipped off to Chicago's "Renegade Handmade" shop. Stop in and visit them!

Shop Update.....

Thanks to everyone who checked out the new stock of Cotton Monsters, and to those that were lucky enough to adopt one! It was almost a 24 hour sell out, leaving just one big sea monster behind (he'll hang out in the store for a bit). Due to many requests, next time I'm ready to update the shop I'll try to send out the newsletter a day or two before they go online, perhaps allowing more people the chance to get one....we'll see how it goes.

Anyway, thanks for the cotton monster loving! Monsters will be sent out as soon as possible!
P.S. Craft magazine article is now online on our press page...

And though I didn't know about the publication before recently, they have a lot of really cool articles, projects, and photos that I would definitely recommend checking out. So if you're curious, pick one up at your local indie-bookstore (Atomic Pop here in Charm City)!! It will soon be posted in our press section too! Hooray!...update coming soon...

its been so long

Well, our Charm City Craft Mafia's first show Pile of Craft went off with a bang! It was a great event with fantastic vendors and a super crowd of shoppers. Here a photo of me towards the end of the day (the monsters are looking pretty tired!) and a shot of one of the rooms. To view more photos click here. It went so well, we are planning on having a holiday show in the same space. Horray, horrah.

After the show and a grueling move across town (my livingspace AND studio) monster production slowed to a halt. But now, the monstress is back, sewing once again!

Thanks for being patient with me while I get things rolling again. I hope to have another big online update come the end of July, so check back soon. Thanks for all the emails! (If i haven't gotten back to you, feel free to resend!)
